To mark the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way on August 23, the Latvian Institute (LI) has released a new factsheet with historic insights and facts regarding the biggest peaceful protest in the Baltic States.

The 600 km long human chain with approximately 2 million participants is considered to be one of the greatest examples of popular non-violent resistance. It was a peak event in the series of manifestations during the Awakening or Independence Movement of the Baltic States (1988-1991).

Honouring the anniversary, LI has also released a Facebook application “The Baltic Way”, which allows everyone to scroll through the entire 600 km from Tallinn to Rīga, to Vilnius. The application also offers interesting facts and general information: https://apps.facebook.com/scrollbalticway
